Go Team Sundance! http://www.sundancemartialarts.com/2016/06/bc-cup-results-go-team-sundance/ Thu, 30 Jun 2016 01:24:43 +0000 http://www.sundancemartialarts.com/?p=1664 Prince George, BC, June 15, 2016– The members of Sundance Taekwon-do achieved huge success at the 2016 International Taekwon-do Federation BC Cup Championships in Prince George on June 11th. The Championships featured 250 competitors from 17 clubs all across British Columbia and Alberta. Sundance Taekwon-do sent a team of 21 competitors bringing home a total of 31 medals. All of the members worked extremely hard in their preparations to bring in 9 Gold, 13 Silver and 9 Bronze.

Claiming three Gold medals was local black belt Nicholas Tiourine handily winning the Junior Boys heavyweight Black Belt sparring category. He also took gold in both breaking categories for power and special technique which features high flying and very athletic performances.  Also in Black belt competition, Sundance instructor David White took the gold in men’s 4th-6th degree black belt patterns and a silver in men’s heavyweight sparring.

Several Sundance colour belts were also successful in their portion of the competition with it being many of the member’s first tournament.  The Dickson family had a very successful outing with James Dickson winning gold boys green belt patterns and silver in the heavyweight sparring. His Father Ken Dickson took the Gold in his sparring category and a silver in senior men’s green belt patterns.

Another family in competition, Amanda Froland took home bronze in the women’s green belt patterns. Jamie Froland took home bronze in both blue belt patterns and sparring. Youngest daughter Taryn took home a bronze medal in the brand new little dragons competition.

Brother and Sister Matthew and Elyse Johnston also had a very successful event with older sister Elyse winning Gold in junior girls red belt sparring and a silver in patterns. Younger brother Matthew took home silver medals in both pre junior red belt patterns and sparring.

Gavin Tokai took home a silver medal in the bantam blue belt sparring category. Katia Zareski took home a gold medal in pre-junior green belt girls patterns and bronze in sparring. Ralph Rasquinha won two medals taking home silver in yellow belt sparring and bronze in patterns.

Some members from the Okanagan Indian Band’s afterschool program also cometed and had a very successful day in their first tournament. The youngest competitor, Olivia Apsassin brought back bronze in girls white belt patterns and silver in her sparring category. Her sister Serena Apsassin took the gold in her yellow belt sparring category. Oldest sibling Courtney Jack took bronze in pre-junior yellow belt patterns and silver in sparring.

Delaney Marchand faced very tough competition and came out with a silver in yellow belt light weight sparring. Mckayla Bonneau took home the silver in yellow belt girls sparring. Keanu Louie took home silver in junior boys yellow belt patterns and sparring. Emmarie Louis brought back bronze in both white belt patterns and sparring.  Isabelle Phillips and Nathan Warkentine put forward an exceptional effort as they gained more experience.
